The Passion of Creation - Masterpieces from the Collection of the Fondation Maeght

  • 05.10.2017 - 14.01.2018

After the great international exhibitions held in the recent years – Joan Miró in 2014, Auguste Rodin in 2015 and Alberto Giacometti in 2016 – the Art Pavilion in Zagreb is preparing another unique international exhibition – the exhibition The Passion of Creation: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Fondation Maeght will be set up from 5th October 2017 to 14thJanuary 2018.

It is a project that aims to present to the public some of the best works from the collection of the Fondation Marguerite et Aimé Maeght, one of the globally important private foundations of modern and contemporary art, located in the small town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, near Nice (France).

The Foundation is of global significance because in its collections an extremely large number of works of the most significant artists of the 20th century are kept. Therefore, in the Art Pavilion, we are extremely proud of the successful cooperation with the Foundation and we are delighted to have the opportunity to present the selection of artists and their works from this collection in Croatia.

The visitors will be able to view works of some of the greatest names of 20th-century art history such as Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Balthus, Pierre Alechinsky, Pol Bury, Erró, Sam Francis, Ellsworth Kelly, Barbara Hepworth, Paul Jenkins, Konrad Klapheck and many others – a total of 64 works (paintings, sculptures, lithographs and etchings, drawings and bibliographic works).

The exhibition consists of 25 authors – representatives of cubism, expressionism, abstract art and fantastic art, ie the representatives of different art movements of modernism of the 20th  century.

The curiosity of the exhibition will be the works of the famous French painter and sculptor Georges Braque, one of the key protagonists of 20th century art. The exhibition includes as many as 21 works of Braque – paintings, sculptures, reliefs and drawings. The public will surely also notice the works of brilliant American artists who will, as well as Georges Braque, be presented for the first time in Croatia and in this part of Europe. Those are the works of some of the indisputably important American artists - in the USA, of course, and beyond -  Alexander Calder, Sam Francis, Ellsworth Kelly and Paul Jenkins!

This is a rare opportunity to see, at the same time, the works of leading 20th century artists, those who have, with their art and their personalities, marked the century. Therefore, we are looking forward to have the opportunity, for three and a half months at the Art Pavilion in Zagreb, to see the works of art which were only available up to date if one traveled abroad.
